The first version of the Glossary of Transport Infrastructure commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and the Ministry of the Environment was published in 2024. In a project carried out from 2025 to 2026, the Glossary was updated and expanded with around 50 concepts. The new concepts relate to traffic planning, road and rail traffic routes, standard cross-sections of routes, and culverts.
The purpose of the Glossary of Transport Infrastructure is to provide concept descriptions and harmonise terms, and in this way support the interoperability of the public administration’s information contents.
The second version of the Glossary of Transport Infrastructure was prepared in several working groups with experts from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the Ministry of the Environment, City of Helsinki, Central Finland’s Economic Development Centre, and Ramboll. The terminologists from the Finnish Terminology Centre coordinated the working groups and were responsible for compiling the Glossary from a terminological perspective.
