Participants in terminology work and ontology work

For a special field glossary to serve its purpose, attention should be paid to the way it is prepared. First of all, the preparation work should follow the general principles and methods of terminology work. Secondly, in a glossary project, it is essential to have expertise both in the subject field in question and in the methods of terminology work. These two rules also apply for other types of concept-oriented work, such as ontology work.

In practice, terminology work means close cooperation between subject field specialists, possibly other specialists (for example information system developers), and professional terminologists. In multilingual terminology work, language specialists, such as professional translators, are often needed to select or form suitable equivalents in other languages for the concepts defined, and possibly to translate the original definitions to other languages.
