At the initiative of CSC (IT Centre for Science), the Finnish Terminology Centre TSK will continue the terminology work on providing descriptions for central concepts related to government subsidies during spring 2020. The terminology work aims to support a project with the objective of developing and digitising activities related to government subsidies. Project Director Tuula Lybeck sheds light on the goals and history of the project in her column (available in Finnish).
The previous stages of the terminology project were carried out in 2018 and 2019, and the work carried out in 2020 will be built on those stages. Among the topics covered by the terminology are types of government subsidies, government subsidy activity and its participants as well as documents related to government subsidies. The corresponding sections of the terminology will be translated into Swedish and English, and they will be circulated for comment in spring 2020. Meanwhile, concepts related to other topics, such as evaluation of the effects and impact of the subsidies, will be worked on in Finnish.
The terminology of government subsidies is being worked on by using methods of terminology work. These methods allow for elaborating definitions and term recommendations which reflect the underlying concept system. This, in turn, helps terminology users to understand differences and relations between the concepts.
Questions related to the terminology are being discussed in workshops attended by subject field experts from various ministries, agencies, organisations and associations.
