In 2021, the Finnish Terminology Centre will continue the terminology work, commissioned by the CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd., with the aim of drawing up descriptions for the key concepts related to government grant activities and activities financed by government grants. The work is carried out in order to support the development and digitalisation of government grant activities. Tuula Lybeck, Project Manager, sheds light on the goals and history of the project in her column (available in Finnish).
The earlier phases of the terminology project have been carried out from 2018 to 2020, and the work to be carried out in 2021 will build on those phases. The first part of the Glossary of Discretionary Government Grants, covering topics such as types of discretionary government grants, activities, parties and documents related to discretionary government grants, as well as administrative matters and administrative decisions, will be published in spring. In addition, new parts of the glossary, covering mainly concepts related to activities financed by discretionary government grants, will be circulated for comment. In the Glossary, terms and concept descriptions will be provided in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The Glossary of Discretionary Government Grant Terms is being worked on by using methods of terminology work. These methods allow for elaborating definitions and term recommendations which reflect the underlying concept system. This, in turn, helps glossary users to understand differences and relations between the concepts.
Questions related to the concepts of the glossary are being discussed in workshops attended by subject field experts from various ministries, agencies, organisations and associations.
