Bank and Finance Terminology was prepared collaboratively by language and communication experts in the banking and finance industry and the Terminology Centre’s terminologists. The aim of the project was to gather and harmonize banking and finance terminology and to make it publicly available. The Terminology Centre’s experts were responsible for the terminology work in the project.
Since the working language of the project was initially Swedish, definitions were written in Swedish at first, while terms were given Finnish and occasionally English equivalents. However, based on feedback received during the project, the primary language (i.e., the language on which the concept analysis is based) was later changed to Finnish. The concept analysis primarily focused on the Finnish system, with secondary emphasis on the Nordic and European systems.
The glossary contains 1,037 concepts related to the banking and finance industry. The content of the concepts is often clarified with definitions and complementing notes, provided in Finnish, Swedish, or, in some cases, both languages. Term recommendations are given in Finnish and Swedish, along with English equivalents.
