The Glossary of Acoustics and Noise Abatement was drawn up in a project commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment. The Glossary contains 75 concepts focusing on acoustics and noise abatement from the viewpoint of the built environment.

The Glossary defines key concepts related to acoustics and noise abatement, provides the concepts with recommended terms in Finnish, and seeks to clarify term usage. The aim was to define concepts so that they can be used in a uniform manner in different contexts and to make sure the Glossary supports data interoperability within the public administration. The Glossary illustrates relations between concepts with concept diagrams. The Glossary is intended as a tool for those working in the field of acoustics and noise abatement, but it can be useful for anyone who needs terms and definitions related to these subjects.

The Glossary was prepared by a working group which consisted of specialists of the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Uusimaa ELY Centre (Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment) and The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom and a terminologist of the Finnish Terminology Centre. The terminologist guided the group's work and was responsible for the terminological correctness of the material.
