The terminology work of the Glossary of continuous learning (Jatkuvan oppimisen sanasto) started in 2020–2021 on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. In spring 2023, the work continued at the request of the Ministry of Education and Culture in a programme that focuses on the digitalisation of continuous learning (Jatkuvan oppimisen digitalisaatio, 2021–2025). The programme is funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU).
The aim of the glossary is to harmonize continuous-learning-related concepts used in both educational and employment administration. Experts from both the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment participate in the terminology work. The working group is led by the Terminology Centre’s terminologists, who are responsible for the terminology work.
The draft published on 30 October 2024 contains 68 key concepts on continuing learning and term recommendations for them in Finnish and Swedish. The content of the concepts is clarified with definitions and complementing notes, which are given in Finnish. The relations between the concepts are illustrated by concept diagrams. The terminology work still continues and new concepts and Swedish and English term recommendations for them will be added in the future.
